He was b. at Ithaca, and was a farmer and blacksmith. He and his brother
William moved (1860) from Ill. to Westmoreland, Kan. The 1850 census of
Rock Island Co., Ill, enumerated him in the household of his step-father
Charles Marshall, a blacksmith. At Westmoreland, he had a blacksmith
shop on his farm, and is said to have been one of the first men of that
area to obtain a living by service to the public. He and Margaret are
bd. in Admantha Cem. Identify of dates and place make it virtually
certain that his death in Pottawatomie Co. was recorded under the name C.
Comfort; the later was a farmer, ae. 74, who d. on Aug. 29, 1907.
